Lemosho Route is the mostly used Route at Mountain Kilimanjaro and takes six days (five nights) or eight days (seven nights) to accomplish. The Route offers beautiful scenic views of the green terrain vegetation, birds.

The Route starts with a long drive from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Gate for 3-4 hours along the Western base of the Mountain.

The Lemosho Route begins in the lush, fertile rainforest ascending and traversing the Shira Plateau North to Moir Hut. This is a good day for acclimatization due to the short hikes you do in the nearby Lent Hills

After a while you ascend up and over the Lava Tower before reaching the Barranco Valley as you trek along the Barranco Wall then to Karanga and high camp of Barafu Hut.

From Barafu to attempt the summit, you go through the coldest, windiest section of your adventure. The Lemosho Route is 70 km/ 42 miles from the Gate and is designed for physically fit people with hiking experience in order to enjoy remarkable hiking adventures along Mountain Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp

You are driven to the western part of Mountain Kilimanjaro at Londorosi Gate for a period of 2-3 hours’ drive from either Moshi/ Arusha. When you reach at the gate, you register then proceed to start your hike of 3-4 hours through the lush green forest. Dinner and Overnight at Forest Camp.

Day 2: Forest Camp to Shira Camp 1

Enjoy delicious breakfast then later transfer through the rainforest for quite a couple of hours then later you shall reach the moorland or low alpine zone with vegetation terrain that ranges from tall trees to small, scrubby bushes and heather. You shall have moved for 13 kms then reach Shira camp 1 situated at the western border of the Shira Plateau.

Day 3: Shira Camp 1 to Shira 2 to Moir Hut

Breakfast in the morning and later proceed on hike along the trails to the Lava Tower at 4,542 meters. You shall explore the Shira plateau for a full day and this includes taking a gentle walk East towards Kibo Peak traversing the plateau that leads to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream. Proceed to the Moir Hut a little used site on the base of Lent Hills an adventure ideal for acclimatization. Then continue on your hike from the Lava Tower to Moir Hut.

Day 4: Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Have breakfast and proceed on hike from the Moir Valley to the summit of Lent Hills at 15,400ft. En-route enjoy views of the green terrain, birds. you shall continue Eastwards along the Northern Circuit Trail to Buffalo Camp for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Breakfast and later continue along a steep ridge via the Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley Campsite. Proceed from the Karanga Valley to the junction that connects with the Mweka Trail and later to the Barafu Hut. When you reach here, you shall have finished the South Circuit and here you enjoy scenic views of the summit peaks like Mawenzi & Kibo at different angles.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut

Breakfast and transfer in between midnight and 2:00 am for a very mentally and physically challenging part of the trek. Continue to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. When you reach here, make sure to keep warm and focused and after, continue Northwest ascending through heavy scree to the Stella Point on the Crater Rim.

When you reach here enjoy remarkable views of the sunrise from the summit and later proceed on ascent to the Uhuru Peak. On this hike you encounter snow all the way up. When you reach the Uhuru Peak, take many photos to keep for memories. After your adventure, continue to descend to the Mweka Camp and en-route break off for lunch at the Barafu Camp. You proceed to the Mweka Camp for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Moshi

Have breakfast then continue on descent to the Mweka Park Gate for your summit Certificates. En-route the trail is wet and muddy requiring you an hour to Mweka Village. You transfer to Moshi at the Kilimanjaro International Airport to board your flight back home.

Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro & Success Rates-8 Days Lemosho Route at Mountain Kilimanjaro

Day 1: Londorosi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast, you are transferred to the western side of Mountain Kilimanjaro at Londorosi Gate for 2-3 hours’ drive. You get from Moshi/ Arusha then continue to the gate for registration then with your luggage, start on hike for 3-4 hours through verdant green forest. Dinner and Overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp 1

Breakfast and transfer through the rainforest for hours then into the moorland/ low alpine zone. The vegetation differs from tall trees to small, scrubby bushes and heather then after 13 kms you reach the Shira camp 1 for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 3: Shira I Camp to Shira II Camp

Breakfast and proceed on hike traversing the Shira plateau (13 kms-wide) as you watch the stunning plains, Valley and Kibo peak. You shall continue to the highest point of Shira Cathedral a ridge at 4,000 m. Dinner and Overnight at Shira II Camp (3850 m) on descent.

Day 4: Shira II Camp to Lava Tower- Barranco Camp

Reach here at a region that is covered with an altitude that affects you as you traverse the dry terrain covered with rough bushes. Have your lunch then later continue reaching the Lava Tower at 4600. After a while, you descend through a terrain of groundsel trees to the Barranco Camp at 3,900 m for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

On this day wake up enjoy breakfast then proceed on ascent via the Barranco Wall at 257 m / 843 ft. Here, you use your hands to climb and after 2 hours, you shall reach the top at Karanga Camp in the shadow of Kibo Peak at 3995 m. Dinner and Overnight at Karanga Camp.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Breakfast and later transfer to Mountain Kilimanjaro’s Base Camp (Barafu Camp 4700m). This hike is tiring then after embark on your rest and have dinner and Overnight at the Barafu Camp. While here, take many photos to keep for memories.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak then High Camp

Have breakfast then at midnight proceed on an ascent along Kibo Peak and as the sun rises in the morning, you shall see the Crater Rim ahead. After 5-6 hours of hiking, you reach Stella Point at 5756 m where you take a rest. Within an hour, continue to the Uhuru Peak at 5875 m and when you get here, take many photos to keep for memories.

After taking photos, embark on descent to the bottom/ Barafu Camp for rest. Transfer for 13-16 hours and have Dinner and Overnight at High Camp.

Day 8: High Camp to Mweka Gate

Breakfast then with luggage transfer through the rain forest downhill to the Mountain Kilimanjaro Gate. You are picked up from Moshi to the Kilimanjaro International Airport to board your flight back home.
